AMENITIES

GENERAL

137 households are prepared to seperate and keep items of refuse for recycling. 44 households use the village bottle and clean can bank. But 68 don't know where it is.

At the time the recycling facilities were run by Mr & Mrs Venner at 'South View' in the High Street. The District Council have since provided a recycling pavilion presently sited on the Playing Field.

Asked if the village neds public toilets, 191 people say 'yes' and 72 say 'no'.

The Parish Council had planned to provide public toilets as part of their plans to create a public car park on land opposite the village shop in North Road, but these were dropped when the car park plans were dropped due to the demands being made by the landowners which the Parish were unable to meet.

138 households say they are able to park cars off the road: 21 cannot.

A surprising statement when considering how many cars are parked on the roads and pavements?

220 people say the village needs a car park; 54 say it does not. If built opposite the butcher's shop 26 people say they would use it for overnight parking.

28 people would like to rent or buy a lock-up garage if built.

THE VILLAGE/CHURCH HALL

110 suggestions are offered concerning improvements to the Village/Church hall. The major ones beong:

  • a comprehensive heating and ventilation system;
    Gas heaters have been supplied.
  • Refurbish and redecorate in brighter colours;
    This was carried out.
  • modernise existing facilities, especially the kitchen, toilets and cloakroom.
    Again, this has been done.

A number of people think a new, larger hall should be built which could include other suggested improvements -- a stage, more storage space, double doors for easier entry, new windows, better chairs and tables, an additional fire escape and bigger and better amenities.

Plans are afoot!

The Parish Council taking over the hall was also suggested.

The children also had some opinions about the hall: 9% say 'great'; 34% say 'good'; 38% say 'so-so': 14% say 'bad' and 5% say 'terrible'. They would like the hall to be: bigger, painted, made more attractive, warmer, with a clean floor and P.E. equipment to be available.

The children suggest several activities -- children's club, keep fit club and more discos.
