Subject: BURIAL RECORDS + Query. From:
Mary Turner
message - 09/02/01 I find this site exciting-think it contains more
REAL LOCAL history than any other seen to date.I also think the book
about the village history is superb. Now you know I'm friendly please
can someone explain why the burial records for 1830-1868 are not
listed? 38 years is a long time if you are looking for some one.
Anyone it will have to be quite a senior citizen recall hearing gossip
or talk about Annie Louisa Beer the Blacksmiths daughter who emigrated
to either Canada or USA approx 1904-1908? left her litle girl behind.

Re: BURIAL RECORDS + Query.
From: Webmaster.
Mary, I apologise for the missing period in the burial
records. This is simply due to my not being able to visit the archives and
finish documenting the records, something I hope to remedy shortly.
Perhaps someone can shed light on the life of Annie Louisa Beer?
Re: BURIAL RECORDS + Query.
From: Mary Turner 23/12/2008
Waited a long time! Annie's daughter was raised by Grandparents (Beer) local Blacksmith her name was Beatrice she married William Turner and
had two sons (recorded in Nurses Diary on website) William and John Turner they went to school in High Bickington. I married William (Ron) we have 3 sons.
Beatrice is now dead-but I would love to know what happened to her mother-think she went to Canada. Big gossip and shame in those days now nobody cares- I
do it is family history. Just like to think she had a happy life wherever she went- but she is the most elusive person to track years of searching no
luck!
Bye,
Mary
Subject: Woollacott Family History. From:
Michele Burford nee Woollacott
message - I am descended from John Woollacott of High Bickington,
he married Mary Ching in Warkleigh on 8/6/1756. My ancestors lived in
Atherington and Kings Nympton, also. Other family names in these
areas include Alford, Baker, Rule. I would like to make contact with
any one else researching these names. I would also love to hear from
any Woollacott's still living in the area. Michele, East Dulwich,
London

  Hello
Your site is really interesting I have enjoyed it all.
My grandfather was Alfred Woollacott. Alfred was one of a very large family of
brothers and sisters from High Bickington/Atherington, his Mother ran the local
pub I believe at High Bickington. Dates I am not sure about. Alfred married
Emily Palmer from Wash Houses, Eggesford. My father is Wilfred Woollacott son
of Alfred. I do have more information if anyone is interested.

  Message for Maria
Yes, John Woollacott married Mary Woollacott (Cousins?) 24/3/1784 in Atherington.
They had a son called Robert who was baptised in Atherington on 18th March 1788.
Could this be your Robert?
Re: Woollacott Family History.
From: Janet Woollacott. 02/02/2003
Hello, My name is Janet Woollacott and my family are farmers in the East Midlands. My Great Grandfather,
Robert Woollacott, was born in High Bickington in 1855, as was his father, also called Robert Woollacott, in 1819.
(My grandfather, James Woollacott, was born in 1888 after the family left High Bickington to farm at Charles.) In the
1881 census the family (Robert Sr. and Robert Jr.) were farming at Tossels Bartin, East Buckland - presumably having
moved away from High Bickington to a new farm. I am trying to trace ancestors of Robert Woollacott, Sr. and wonder if
anyone can help? If anyone has any relevant information, I would be very grateful.
Thanks for the High Bickington web site, by the way. It has been very interesting to read about the village. My father's
family still live and farm in Devon, but I don't think there are any close relatives living now in High Bickington.
Regards, Janet Woollacott

For all you Woollacott family researchers, my recent visit to the North Devon Records Office has turned up
several new references to the Woollacott family, among others, in burial registers and baptisms. These will be on site
soon so be sure to keep visiting?
Re: Woollacott Family History.
From: Alfred Woollacott 09/10/2005
My name is Alfred Woollacott, III, grandson of Alfred Sr. the Mayor of Fitchburg MA (1936-1946) I have recently
compiled the Fitchburg Woollacotts which is quite complete for three generations (I am part of Generation 3). Generation
4 is rather sparse.
The patriarch of the Fitchburg Woollacotts is John (b.9/13/1862 Atherington) who married Nora Newcombe (b 7/25/1862
Atherington). John's father and mother are Elon (b. 5/1/1829 High Bickington) and Mary Ann Glovier (b. 1833 Atherington)
Woollacott.
Elon is the seventh child (out of nine) of Robert (b. 1789 High Bickington) and Mary Cole (b. Burrington 3/2/17940
Woollacott.
Robert's parents are John (b 1735) and Mary Down ( about 1741 -1821) Woollacott and grandparents are John (b 1695 High
Bickington) and Ann (married approx 1730) Woollacott.
If you are intertested in the Fitchburg Woollacott Information you may e-mail me at
MV4AL@aol.com. I would be interested in any information about the Woollacotts, particularly that information that
surrounds the Fitchburg Woollacotts.

I have not been able to connect my branch of the Woollacott's to the farming
Woollacott's. I have got back to a Samuel Woollacott who it seems arrived
in Bideford in 1688 from Wexford. He was involved with The Great Meeting
Independent Chapel at Bideford. Here I am stuck! Does anyone have any
information perhaps?

Hello - I am descended from Alfred Woollacott who was born in the area around 1864. He joined the army and was
married to a Mary Anne Baker, who was the daughter of Melinda Alford. They were married in Dartmouth in 1891. My
grandmother Gladys Riette Woolacott was their third daughter. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may have
some information about Alfred. Linda

From: Peter Naylor. 12/06/2007
The above message refers to Alfred, my Great Grandfather, and is from a side of the family I have not met due to the
three daughters being separated at a young age. If at all possible could you pass my e-mail address to Linda by way of
copying this to her. My Grandfather Richard Naylor married Winifred Alford Woolacott in 1915. Winifred was the older of
the sisters.

Hi. My paternal grandmother was Lily Woolacott, born in Coker, Yeovil,
Somerset in 1896.I believe the family originated from Devon. I've only just
started researching my family tree, so don't have much to share yet, but
would be interested in any information about my great grandmother, Harriet
Woolacott, born 1859 in East Coker or any other relatives born before
1900. Thanks, Linda Frost.
Subject: Giffard,Champernowne From: Janice
message - Good Morning I have just spent over an hour on your site and it
is one of the best I have come across! It has enough of everything in it to
give a real "feel" for life in High Bickington. I wonder if you know how
many people would love to have the life style that you enjoy? What led me
here is searching for information on the names Champernowne and Giffard. The
only information that I have is unproven - John Giffard married Elizabeth
Champernowne in the mid to late 1600's. Also a Henry Giffard was living in
High Bickington in 1747. He was a Lieut. at the battle of La Hague?
Thank you for a wonderful site. If it is as friendly and as easy to navigate
as the people of High Bickington, you have a lot to be proud of. Regards,
Janice
