Subject: Hill Family. From:
Dan in Charleston,South Carolina
message - 5/10/01 - I am seeking information on my great great grandmother who was born in
High Bickington in 1818 or 1817. Her name was Mary HILL. I don't know who her mother and father
were, but I'm hoping her baptism will turn up in the High Bickington Parish Records. She had a
sister, Anne, who was born in Yarnscombe in 1834 or 1835. It is my feeling that Mary's family moved
to Yarnscombe sometime between the time she was born and 1825. I have a record of a baptism in
Yarnscombe of a John Hill whose parents were Richard and Elizabeth Hill. Were Richard and
Elizabeth Hill originally from High Bickington and is John Hill a sibling of my gg grandmother?
I notice that there are very few HILL's buried in St.Mary's Churchyard in High
Bickington....another reason to make me think that the Hill's left High Bickington for other
environs. John and Mary Hill Cole appear on the 1851 UK Census, residing at Ridge Lane,
Barnstaple. Among the household members is my great grandmother, Elizabeth Cole, aged 7, and my gg
grandmother's sister, Anne Hill, aged 16. Any help the residents of High Bickington could give
me with this matter would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I will be back in England in the
Fall of 2002. Kindest regards, Dan in Charleston,South Carolina

Subject: Richards Family. From:
Judy Hagen - Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada
message - 3/01/02 - I do not have the opportunity very often to surf the net...but ran across
your website. WONDERFUL. my connection goes back to RICHARDS ancestor married in 1665. visited
your lovely village in September 1989 and stayed with Sid Squires who I now see from his
Christmas message has moved to live with his daughter Judy.
I must drag out my boxes of High Bickington research and update my files. Thank you for the
cemetery listings...I have been very busy reading and recording the graves in our area
(Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada) so I appreciate how much work goes into cemetery lists.
There are 7 of us living today researching to that RICHARDS wedding in High Bickington in 1665.
It was a thrill for me in 1989 to worship in your lovely Norman church, where my family
worshiped for over 300 years. My home church is not yet 50 years old!!!
Thank you for all your hard work...keep it up.

Re: Richards Family.
From: David Tetlow.
I have visited your website a number of times in recent months and have been VERY impressed with it. From a genealogical
research point of view it delivers a fantastic service and the praise from your contributors confirms this. When visiting
this time I came across this entry from Margaret about the Payne family and a penny dropped! I'm one of the several
Richards [and Shaddock, Alford, Hunt, Bragg, Hill, Hern/Hearn, Murch and Sanders] researchers mentioned by Judy Hagen,
another of your contributors, and had just identified that Rachel Richards had married a Robert Payne from Ann (Gooding)
Richard's will. Talk about co-incidences! Anyhow, I found Margaret's information about Robert & Rachel very interesting and
the mention of a number of Rachel's siblings has me interested as Margaret would appear to have census information that I
don't have. Rather than fill your chat pages with e-mails flying back and forth on this subject I wonder whether you could
pass on my e-mail address to Margaret?
Kind regards, David Tetlow

Hello Judy;
I just came across your Richards message and wondered if I could ask you
if you have come across a John Richards, RN who married a girl against
her father's wishes and she was disowned. They had a family, three of
which were Samuel, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Margaret (born 1770) I've been
trying for years to find this family, so little to go on! Thanks in advance for any considerations, Virginia

I am researching Joanna Richards who married William Bragg in the 1840's. Joanna's mother later married a Boatfield.
When William Bragg died Joanna married William Smith. Joanna's children Silas, William, Thomas and Ann Page came to
America in about 1855. Any other information on this family will be welcomed. They are from High Bickington.

Subject: Snape. From:
John Niblett - 27th March 2002
message - I am interested in the history of Snape. My wifes ancestors (name Atkins) were said
to have lost the manor of Snape in Devon in a gambling debt sometime in the mid 1700's. I have
discovered that John Cobleigh was Lord of the manor of Snape in 1500, but have not been able to
find out more so far. The North Devon records office are doing some research for me and Mrs Bolt
of Week farm is making enquiries for me. If I find out anything that may be of general interest
I will let you know....John Niblett.

Subject: Glyn Green. From:
Glyn Green - 9th June 2002
message - During the last few days, fired by a curiousity created by being a little stressed out
(moving house, attending a wedding etc etc), I`ve decided to have a look at how many of my namesakes
there are in the world (taking the famous similar search by the comedian Dave Gorman as my cue). After
all, there can`t be THAT many Glyn Green`s floating around, surely...Hmm, we might be surprised....
Anyway, I wonder if you had any details of the Glyn Green listed in the photo. I understand that you may
not want to give out personal details, so geel free to pass on my e-mail address to him.
For the record, I`m a 29 year old office manager for an internet historic digitisation project called
"Gathering The Jewels", based at the National Library of Wales, in Aberystwyth.

I know this may sound bizarre, but please humour this very stressed out Welshman, and his strange, illogical quest...
Take care, and feel free to drop me a line...

For those who don't know or can't remember, Glyn's family, (thats the High Bickington Glyn, not the one above),
used to own and run North Road Stores back in the late sixties/early seventies.
Are you out there Glyn?
