The Mitchell Family of High Bickington


John Mitchell was born in 1789 in Beaford and died at High Bickington in May 1862. He was burried at High Bickington on 11th May 1862. His mother was Elizabeth Mitchell of Beaford.
John's first marriage was to Mary Davey on 29th September 1812 at High Bickington. They had two children, Charlotte and Mary.
John's second marriage was to Agnes Mills on 26th of Fabruary 1823, also at High Bickington. They had five children, Elizabeth, Agnes, Jane, Grace and Charity. Elizabeth married Samuel Douglas McMeekin of Canada. Charity was born in 1832 and her daughter Elizabeth, born in 1858 at High Bickington.

Peter and Betty Mitchell lived in the Old Bakery at the top of Poplar Terrace and Betty is still living there in 2002 following Peter's death in the 1990's. They have three children, Gary, Stuart and Shirley.
In 2002 Gary is living in Wardens Close and has his own Painting and Decorating business. Gary is a keen darts player and was a member of the Golden Lion, Lionhearts darts team who won the South Molton 2nd division trophy in 1980, as was Stuart also. Stuart also followed his father Peter in becoming a long playing member of the High Bickington football team.
